Clay, glazes, lusters, multiple firings

This ceramic piece was commissioned for a very special birthday for the Karl and Sandy Fix of Regina Sasketchewan. It has been sculpted in three seperate pieces to be easier to fire and to move.  The central piece is a blue bowl of red roses and green apples.  The side pieces which fit around the edges of the bowl have clusters of fruits, flowers bugs and butterflies glazed and fired multiple times.  The firings included a final luster firing of many touches of gold.  The entire work measures approximately 30 inches in width and 12 inches high.  It was carefully packed (by me) and delivered to the Fix residence in Regina by Bill Betzler of Artpack.  It got there in time for a fabulous birthday party where 300 friends celebrated with Karl and Sandy.  I follow Karl and Sandy on facebook to see the many great photographs taken by Karl on their frequent travels abroad.
